Keep: cost, levels and upgrades
Short answer
The Keep is the heart of your village: it makes a little scrap and timber on its own, guards the centre with its own fire, and is where you fortify and expand.
What it does
Every village starts with a Keep and never loses it. It produces 8 scrap, 8 timber every hour even before you build anything else, and it shoots raiders who reach the centre.
Fortifying the Keep costs 450 scrap, 300 timber and takes 2 h. It adds 400 to every store, protects 100 more of each material from raids, and toughens your road gates.
Expanding the island around the Keep adds building pads and raises how far your buildings can be upgraded. The table below shows each expansion.
Expansion
| Expansion | Cost | Time | Building pads | Highest building level |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 400 scrap, 300 timber | 1 h | 8 | 2 |
| 2 | 2,600 scrap, 2,000 timber, 800 biomass | 8 h | 12 | 3 |
| 3 | 7,000 scrap, 5,000 timber, 2,500 biomass | 20 h | 16 | 5 |
Tips
- Expand once before you upgrade anything past level 2: the island caps every building's level.
- Fortify before your first blood moon. The extra protected stock alone pays for it after one bad raid.
- Your Keep's income never stops, so even a quiet village has something to spend after a night away.
