Blood moon survival guide
Updated September 25, 2026. Figures come from the live game.
The short answer
The blood moon rises every Saturday 20:00 UTC and sets Sunday 04:00 UTC. Your village meets three waves, two hours apart, sized from your strength. Holding one, two or three waves pays 5, 10 or 20 gold.
When and how big
| Wave | Arrives | Size |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Saturday 20:00 UTC (moon rise) | Based on your strength, 3–18 zombies |
| 2 | 22:00 UTC | About 1.35× wave 1 |
| 3 | Sunday 00:00 UTC | About 1.75× wave 1 |
Strains rotate between waves. A push warns you an hour before moon rise.
What it pays
| Waves held | Gold |
|---|---|
| 1 | 5 |
| 2 | 10 |
| 3 | 20 (counts as a blood moon survived) |
The Ranks page has a Blood Moon tab ranked by waves held, then attackers downed.
How to prepare
- Saturday afternoon: bind to near your horde cap and post guards on every gate.
- Build a barricade on each side and repair anything wrecked.
- Keep 7 serum spare for live defense's Spore cloud and Volley.
- Be in the game at 20:00, 22:00 and 00:00 UTC if you can. Present players get the 30-second live defense.

The blood moon falls at night, when towers see 15 % less far.
